Welcome to our Blog....
A group from 4 different US cities will gather together at the Project Lucas Center in Ruiru, Kenya on July 12-28, 2019 to love and ministier to the precious chidren and families that are involved in the Project Lucas Sponsorship Program and Project Lucas Academy. As they say on Law and Order "Here are their Story..." (drama music)
It is my fourth full day in Kenya, and I can say with confidence that the presence of the Lord is in this place. For me, the joining of this trip was fast and unexpected with many questions to the Lord about the timing of this trip in my life, along with what the trip would look like as a whole; but either way I knew it was Him and I needed to follow. After my 14-hour flight I was picked up and went straight to church where I was given a delicious cup of chai tea and a warm greeting from some of the members of the church that immediately illuminated the generous hearts of the Kenyan people.
Every day of working at the Project Lucas center, I have been met with the beautiful smiles of the children that so easily love, not only us who come, but each other. I have watched these children take everything that is given to them, from education to meals during school hours, with hearts full of gratitude which has daily taught me about having a heart posture of thanksgiving. My heart was overwhelmed as we drove to the center today because I saw the Lord’s love for the Kenyan people, and how entirely concerned He is with every moment of each of their lives. I asked the Lord a question this morning knowing that He is sovereign and everything He does has purpose: Why He has asked me to come on this trip at this time? While I was painting the window trim on the outside of the center this afternoon, the Lord said so clearly “I just wanted you to follow me here”, which softened my heart in knowing that He wanted me to see His children and love them in this place. A few hours later, the kids were gathered together for assembly where they wrap up for the day and pray before heading home, and as I turned around from the painting I had been doing most of the day, I saw and heard the children praying and felt the Lord’s heart for them which is overflowing with love and pride. It is so much fun to play with the children during their breaks and to hear them play as we are working.
Today I was talking with another member of the team and he said he normally likes to work to music, but hearing the children laughing and playing is music enough for us. I couldn’t’ve agreed more. I think sometimes it is easy to have the mindset that we are coming here to bless, but I have been all the more blessed by the people here. I can hardly wait to see what else the Lord has for us here!
